FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Katy Houchin has been named Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the period of Aug. 31-Sep. 6.
Houchin, a sophomore goalkeeper from Temple, TX, registered two consecutive shutouts within 24 hours for the 4-0 Lady Rams. She blanked Oklahoma Baptist University with five saves for a 1-0 victory and then blanked Schreiner University (TX), 1-0. In four games this season, Houchin has registered three shutouts and a goals against average of 0.48.
Cassandra Ruiz of the University of the Southwest (NM) was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Ruiz, a sophomore forward from Hobbs, NM, posted seven points (two goals and three assists) as the Lady Mustangs defeated McMurry University (TX), 8-0.
The Lady Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they host Oklahoma City University. That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
