LADY RAMS SWEEP RRAC AWARDS

FORT WORTH, TX:  Texas Wesleyan University’s Christina Zimmerman has been named Red River Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the period of September 22-28, while her teammate Brittany O’Brien has been selected as the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Zimmerman, a sophomore midfielder from Irving, TX, paved the way to two conference victories for the Lady Rams with three goals.  She notched one in a 6-0 win over Texas College then added a pair of goals en route to a 4-0 victory over Bacone College (OK).  Zimmerman is now tied with Brianna McKernon for the team lead in goals scored this season with five. The Lady Rams are 2-0 in the RRAC and 5-3 overall.

O’Brien, a senior goalkeeper from Colleyville, TX, delivered the back-to-back shutouts for the Lady Rams while playing every minute in net.  She accounted for two saves against TC and four against Bacone as the Rams started conference play with consecutive shutouts for the first time in the history of its program.

Julia Dell’ Aquila of the University of Texas-Brownsville was nominated for the RRAC offensive award, while Bacone’s Michelle Gross was a defensive award nominee.

The Lady Rams return to action on Wednesday, October 1, when they travel to San Antonio, TX, to take on Our Lady of the Lake University (7-3-1).  That match is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
