TYLER, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (4-3) cruised to a 6-0 win at Texas College (3-6) in their Red River Athletic Conference opener.
The Rams had a bit of a slow start, taking 23 shots in the first half, but finding the net just twice. Jacqueline Wittman corralled a goal kick and scored just 1:37 into the contest. Diana Lopez later scored in the 40th minute to make it 2-0 at the half.
In the second half, the Lady Rams scored on four of 16 shots. Lopez assisted on a Brianna McKernon goal in the 65th minute. Dominique Harrison then scored off an assist from Alejandra Barrera in the 81st minute, assisted on a Christina Zimmerman strike in the 82nd minute, and scored again off an assist from McKernon in the 89th minute.
Head coach Josh Gibbs said he “finally felt like we put two halves together and played a complete game today. Its starting to click at the right time with the start of our conference schedule.”
The Lady Rams will remain in RRAC play when they host Bacone College on Saturday. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Martin Field. |
