TYLER, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (3-3-1) suffered a 3-2 loss at Texas College on Thursday.
The Rams got on the board first when Kevin Rauch hit Charlie Torres for a score in the 23rd minute. In the 34th minute, Texas College tied the game with a goal from Edgar Coria.
The final seconds of the first half were action packed. In the 45th minute the Rams were called for a push in the box and Jony Rivera converted the ensuing penalty kick for the Steers. As the clock wound down, the Rams got a corner kick and Rauch’s serve found Miguel Arreguin who headed the ball into the net and sent the game to the break tied at two.
In the 81st minute a Texas College cross was deflected by a Texas Wesleyan defender into the net, giving the Steers the 3-2 advantage.
Goalkeeper Joakim Soderbaum made six saves in the loss for Texas Wesleyan.
“We were a little unlucky to have an own goal and a penalty kick,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs, “but, we did not play well as a group either. We just have to put it behind us and put all of our focus on Bacone.”
The Rams will host Bacone College at Martin Field on Saturday. That game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start. |
