SAN ANGELO, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (3-3) suffered a 1-0 loss at Angelo State University (5-3) after the Rambelles scored in the 83rd minute.
Angelo State held a commanding advantage in shots (27-7) and corner kicks (10-2), but goalkeeper Brittany O’Brien made 11 saves to keep her team even.
Seven of those saves came in the first half and the Rams went to the break tied 0-0. Late in the 83rd minute, ASU’s Christy Knaub scored off a double assist from Shannon Dean and Skylar Sears.
That proved to be the game’s only score and ASU came away with the 1-0 win.
“It was a tale of two halves,” said head coach Josh Gibbs. “We didn’t play for 45 minutes and we payed for it. ASU played a complete match and they deserved to win.”
The Lady Rams will begin Red River Athletic Conference play on Thursday, September 25, when they travel to Tyler, TX, to take on Texas College. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start. |
