OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (3-2) suffered a 3-2 loss at Oklahoma City University (2-3-1) on Tuesday. The Stars needed a late goal from Sarah Leonard to escape with the win.
The Rams struck first when Alejandra Barrera found Dominique Harrison for a goal in just the fourth minute of play. In the 22nd minute, Malin Anderson got the Stars on the board off an assist from Caroline Dixon. In the 38th minute, Dixon and Anderson connected again, and Oklahoma City led 2-1.
The Lady Rams got off just four shots in the contest, but they made the most of them. Jaime Romaguera found the net on an assist from Diana Lopez in the 71st minute to tie the game at two.
In the 79th minute, Texas Wesleyan goalkeeper Brittany O’Brien went out for a ball and collided with an Oklahoma City player. Sarah Leonard came up with the ball and scored the game-winner.
O’Brien made seven saves in the loss.
“We only played for forty-five minutes,” said head coach Josh Gibbs. “The second half was one of the best we have played, but that is not going to be enough against a good team.”
The Lady Rams will return to action on Friday, when they travel to San Angelo, TX, to take on Angelo State University. That game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start. |
