ABILENE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team finished fourth at Abilene Christian University’s Charles Coody Intercollegiate held at Diamondback Golf Course.
Paco Saracho and Kevin Doskocil led the Rams to a very solid final round of 287. Texas Wesleyan held off Texas A&M Commerce and finished fourth with a total score of 579.
St. Edward’s University shot a round of 283 and took the team title at 559. Cameron University (569) also checked in with a 283 on Tuesday and overtook Abilene Christian (575) for second place.
St. Edward’s Collin Mayer took the individual title with back-to-back rounds of 68 (136).
Saracho recovered from a tough first round (77) to match the low round of the tournament with a card of 66 on Tuesday. That lifted Saracho from 29th after one round to a tie for 11th position. Kevin Doskocil capped an outstanding start to his senior campaign with a round of 69 and a tie for third position at three-under par 139.
Armando Villarreal shot a final round 74 and finished tied for 22nd (146). Carlos Arenas finished tied for 51st (153), and Stuart Martin tied for 59th (155).
The Rams will host the annual O.D. Bounds Golf Classic on Monday, September 22, and will return to competition at the Rattler Invitational in San Antonio, TX, September 29-30.
