Box Score
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (3-1) took an 8-0 decision over Concordia University Texas (1-2-2) at Martin Field on Friday.
After a slow start, the Rams found the net with frequency. Brianna McKernon got the scoring started in the 18th minute and then scored again three minutes later. Christina Zimmerman collected a rebound off a corner kick and scored in the 32nd minute and then scored again off Jamie Romaguera’s second assist of the game in the 37th minute.
The Lady Rams led 4-0 at the half, and went on to score four more in the second thanks largely to Diana Lopez. Lopez scored her first three collegiate goals in the 54th, 61st, and 79th minutes. Chelsie Yarbrough capped the scoring with a goal off an assist from Haley Browning in the 83rd minute.
Brittany O’Brien and Katy Houchin each made one save in the shutout for the Lady Rams.
Texas Wesleyan dominated play throughout, taking a 32-8 advantage in shots including 19-2 in shots on goal. The Rams also took eight corner kicks and did not allow a corner opportunity for the Tornados.
“It took us a while to start playing,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs, “but it really clicked when we did. We’re not one hundred percent healthy, but we are getting there.”
The Lady Rams will return to action on Tuesday, September 16, when they travel to Oklahoma City, OK, to take on Oklahoma City University. That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start. |
