FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (3-1-1) took a 4-1 win over Concordia University Texas (1-4) at Martin Field on Friday.
The Rams wasted no time taking the lead. Just 1:38 into the game, Kevin Rauch played a ball in from near midfield and Christian Villasenor was there to finish for the game’s first goal.
Texas Wesleyan controlled the ball throughout the first half. However, they missed on their scoring opportunities the rest of the way and led 1-0 at the intermission.
In the second half, Vedran Ceric made it 2-0 with a booming strike from 30 yards out in the 52nd minute. Concordia’s Chris Hawkins made it a 2-1 contest with a goal in the 83rd minute; however the Rams quickly put the game away. Leo Cubrilo scored off a rebounding shot in the 85th minute and Villasenor found the net again in the 89th minute for the 4-1 final.
The Rams held a 16-5 lead in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Joakim Soderbaum made four saves in the win.
“This was a dominating performance,” said head coach Josh Gibbs. “We did have some missed opportunities. We were getting shots, but just needed to finish a little bit better. It’s good to see us hitting our stride going into Oklahoma City.”
The Rams will travel to Oklahoma City, OK, on Tuesday, September 16, to take on 14th ranked Oklahoma City University (5-1). That game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start. |
