BROWNWOOD, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (2-0) took a 2-0 win over Howard Payne University (1-1) on Saturday.
The Lady Rams out shot the Yellow Jackets 9-3 in the first half and took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Haley Browning in the 23rd minute.
Play evened out in the second half with Texas Wesleyan taking a 10-9 advantage in shots. Alejandra Barrera’s second goal of the season gave the Rams some insurance, and they held on for the 2-0 win.
Brittany O’Brien made three saves in route to her seventh career shutout.
Head coach Josh Gibbs said that his team still has not hit its stride. “We did not play very well today,” Gibbs said, “but I’m proud of the way that they worked through it and still found a way to win.”
The Lady Rams will take on Texas Woman’s University on Tuesday, September 2. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Martin Field. |
