LADY RAMS WIN 3-1 IN SEASON OPENER |

ABILENE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (1-0) topped McMurry University (0-1) 3-1 in their season opening contest.
The Lady Rams swiped the early lead when Brianna McKernon scored off an assist from Dominique Harrison. Texas Wesleyan out shot McMurry 14-2 in the first half, but Katy MacNair knocked in a rebound off of a penalty kick in the 30th minute and the game was tied at the half.
McKernon scored the game-winner in the 65th minute, and Alejandra Barrera added a late goal off a cross from Christina Zimmerman.
The Lady Rams controlled the tempo throughout, outshooting McMurry 22-3 for the game. Brittany O’Brien made two saves in the win.
“We struggled to finish today, but it is a good sign that we were able to win without our best game,” head coach Josh Gibbs said. “It’s always great to get that first win.”
The Lady Rams are back in action on Saturday, when they take on Howard Payne University. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start in Brownwood, TX. |
