FORT WORTH, TX: Behind the strong pitching of Aaron Wimpee and clutch hitting of Brandon Frazier, the Texas Wesleyan Gold team took a 7-1 win over the TWU Navy team in game one of the Wesleyan World Series on Tuesday.
Gold loaded the bases with two outs in the second inning. Senior center fielder Brandon Frazier promptly cleared them with a triple into the right-center gap. Frazier then scored on a double from Ben Kliever.
The Gold team pushed their lead to 7-0 in a third inning highlighted by a two-out RBI single from Harrison Law.
Wimpee, who went 2-0 with a 3.71 ERA last season, allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out four in 6.1 innings of work.
The Blue team finally chased Wimpee in the seventh when Brad Henderson ripped a leadoff single and scored on a ground bal from Eric Alvarez.
The best-of-five series continues on Wednesday at Sycamore Park. Wednesday and Thursday's games are set for 3:00 p.m. starts with a potential doubleheader on Friday scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
