AUSTIN, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (8-6-2) took a 2-1 overtime win over defending Red River Athletic Conference Champion Huston-Tillotson University Rams (9-5-2, 3-2-1 RRAC) on Sunday and gained sole possession of second place in the conference standings at 4-1-1.
Brad Egan netted the Rams' first goal late in the first half. The game remained tied at one at the end of regulation and went into overtime. Freshman Adis Druzanovic scored his second game-winning goal of the season just three minutes into the first overtime period.
“This was a good team effort,” said head coach Josh Gibbs. “A lot of players got some quality minutes today. The defense was solid, and Sven [Joakim Soderbaum] was great in gaol.”
The Rams trail UT-Brownsville (5-0) in the conference standings. The Scorpions need a win or a tie in their final two matches to lock up the regular season title and the top seed in the conference tournament.
Texas Wesleyan will be hosting the RRAC tournament October 26-29, at Martin Field. The Rams will play their final regular season game on Saturday, October 20, when they host College of the Southwest. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start and will be preceded by Senior Day festivities. |
