WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (5-6-2, 1-1-1 RRAC) was locked in a 2-2 tie with Southwestern Assemblies of God University (1-11-1, 1-3-1) when the game was called due to lightning after 82 minutes of play.
Glorie Ndongala gave the Lions a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 23rd minute, but Leo Cubrilo tied the game just before the half off an assist from Seth Mullins.
In the second half, Mullins and Cubrilo connected again to give the Rams the lead in the 74th minute. Five minutes later SAGU’s Nolan Jones tied the game at two just before play was halted and eventually called off due to rain and lightning.
Joakim Soderbaum made eight saves in the contest while his counterpart, Girien Salazar made six saves for SAGU.
“SAGU came out and worked hard and disrupted us,” commented head coach Josh Gibbs. “We are in a rough patch right now, and we need to get better. There are no easy games in our conference.”
The Rams return to the field on Monday, October 8, when they travel to Muskogee, OK, to take on Bacone College. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start and will be preceded by a women’s game.
