IRVINE, CA: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (2-4) topped Carroll College 3-2 on Friday. The Rams took the match, which was played at Concordia University at Irvine, with scores of 30-20, 30-32, 30-19, 24-30, and 15-4.
Head coach Christy Clawson said, “Today was really a mental challenge. We had a long flight yesterday and spent most of the day in the gym. It was good to get a win and to close it out like we did in that fifth game. Our four seniors are playing very well and leading by example on the floor.”
The Lady Rams went 0-2 in game five’s last season and had not won a fifth game since August of 2005. They had no trouble on Friday, jumping ahead early and pounding the Saints 15-4.
Sandra Ayala, Erinn Miller, and Evoni Darling each recorded double-doubles. Ayala had a solid all around match with 18 kills, 16 digs, five aces, and five blocks. Miller had 12 kills, 12 digs, four aces, and four blocks. Darling recorded 45 assists and 12 digs.
Ashley Mock notched a team-high 23 digs, while Liz Meng finished with nine kills and 14 digs.
The Rams will play one more match in California before returning home. They take on San Diego Christian University in Irvine at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
