FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University (0-1-1) and East Central University (1-0-2) women’s soccer teams played to a 1-1 draw through two overtime periods at Martin Field on Sunday. Texas Wesleyan’s Brianna McKernon scored the game-tying goal on a penalty kick in the 65th minute.
Defense prevailed throughout the contest. In the first half both teams recorded one shot one goal. The Tiger’s lone shot on the net found its mark when Juliana Cantu scored in the 26th minute.
In the 65th minute, Texas Wesleyan’s Sarah Wilson broke free and was taken down in the box. ECU goalkeeper Kelly Davis was tagged with a yellow card on the play, and McKernon converted the ensuing penalty kick to knot the game at one.
Both teams had opportunities in the overtime periods but could not find the net.
Holly Rowland made eight saves in goal for the Lady Rams.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday, September 1, when they host Oklahoma City University at Martin Field. That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start and will be followed by a men’s game.
