ALEXANDRIA, LA: The 19th ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (37-12) closed out the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of LSU Alexandria. The Rams took wins of 6-3 and 7-1 on Saturday.
In game one, Jesse Wright improved to 2-2 with the win. A pair of runs from the Generals in the fifth inning brought the score to 6-3, but Hayden Lackey, making his 100th career appearance, came on in relief and closed the door to pick up his fourth save of the season.
Ryan Ragsdale went 2-for-2 at the plate.
In game two, Kyle Harmon hit a two-run homer as part of a three-run first inning. The Rams added one more in the fifth and three more in the sixth before LSUA added an inconsequential run in the bottom of the seventh.
Brandon Whitley tossed five scoreless innings to move to 3-1 on the season. Mikey Valdez went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Rams.
The Rams finished the regular season with a record of 37-12 overall and 14-1 in conference play. They will be the top-seed in next week’s RRAC Tournament. They will play the host school, UT-Brownsville, in first round action on Tuesday. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch. |
