FORT WORTH, TX:  In a battle of top-25 NAIA squads, the 23rd ranked LSU-Shreveport Pilots (33-12) swept a doubleheader from 17th ranked Texas Wesleyan University (30-11) at LaGrave Field on Sunday.  The Pilots took game one 9-5 and game two 13-3.

After a solo home run from LSUS’ Josh Todd in the first, the Rams took control with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the first and an RBI single from Jerry Fisher in the second.

The Pilots used three hits and four walks in the third inning to plate five runs and open a 6-3 lead.  That lead swelled to 9-3 after five consecutive two-out singles in the top of the seventh.

The Rams put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh.  Ryan Jacobi plated Jerry Fisher with a base hit before the Rams loaded the bases with no outs, but Gino Spratley came on and allowed just one more runner to cross the plate.

Kody Thiebaud fell to 3-1 on the season after allowing six runs on three hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Antoine Cole went 2-for-2 for the Rams.  Fisher and Kyle Harmon each added a pair of hits as well.

After allowing a pair of runs in the first inning of game two, Texas Wesleyan responded with RBI singles from Butch Ballez and Blake Walker in the bottom of the first.

LSUS got three runs on three hits including a two-run triple from Brandon Bravata in the third.  The Rams stayed in the game with an RBI double from Ballez in the bottom of the third, but LSUS made it 10-3 with five runs in the fourth including a three run homer from Craig Barnes.

The Pilots added a sole home run from Todd in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth to end the game at 13-3.

Jesse Wright (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing five runs on six hits while striking out six in three innings of work.

Ballez and Brandon Frazier led the Rams at the plate with a pair of hits each.

The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Oklahoma City, OK, to take on Oklahoma City University.  That game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
