April 11, 2008

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX:  The 17th ranked Texas Wesleyan baseball team (29-8, 10-0 RRAC) blasted four home runs en route to their 18th consecutive win on Friday.  The Rams took game-one of a three game Red River Athletic Conference series with Northwood University (18-8, 5-5) by a score of 10-4.

Texas Wesleyan scored seven of their ten runs via the home run.  Butch Ballez started the trend with a solo shot in the first inning.  Blake Walker lined a three-run shot over the wall in left-center field in the bottom of the second.

Northwood got on the board in the third with an RBI double from Bryan Root, but Brandon Frazier got that run back with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.  A three-run homer off the bat of Zach Smith brought the score to 7-1 in the fifth inning.

Doubles from Frazier and Antoine Cole led to two more runs in the sixth.  Northwood plated three runs in the seventh before Kyle Harmon hit a solo home run to cap the scoring in the bottom of the inning.

In all the Rams racked up 14 hits.  Cole led the way by going 3-for-4 at the plate.  The top four hitters in the Texas Wesleyan order recorded nine hits, scored five runs, and drove in six.

Jayson Rachuig (5-2) earned the win after allowing one run on five hits while striking out five in six innings pitched.

The two teams will complete their series with a doubleheader in Cedar Hill, TX, on Saturday.  Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
