DALLAS, TX: The 22nd ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (23-8) completed a three-game series sweep of Paul Quinn College (7-28, 1-5 RRAC) by taking both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday. With the two wins, the Rams remained perfect in Red River Athletic Conference play at 6-0 while running their current winning streak to twelve games.
The Rams took game one by a score of 8-0. Brandon Frazier led the game off with a double and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Zach Smith.
That was all the support Stephen DeFratus required. DeFratus (5-2) tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering six hits across seven innings while striking out seven Tigers.
The Rams scored four runs in a fourth inning highlighted by a two-run double from Frazier. They added an RBI double from Butch Ballez in the fifth, a leadoff homer from Brad Henderson in the sixth, and an unearned tally in the seventh.
Frazier went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored in the contest. Ballez went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI at the plate.
The Rams poured in on late in game two to take a 14-1 win. Frazier led off with a walk and scored on a single from Antoine Cole, but Jason Curry reached on an error and later tied the game in the first inning for Paul Quinn.
Three singles and a two-run double from Frazier led to three Texas Wesleyan runs in the fourth. After getting one more in the sixth, the Rams exploded for five runs on five hits including doubles from Frazier, Cole, and Kyle Harmon. Texas Wesleyan then added four more runs on five more hits in the eighth inning to bring the score to 14-1.
Aaron Wimpee (5-0) allowed just one unearned run on six hits while striking out three in six innings pitched.
Frazier and Cole led the Rams’ 18-hit attack with three knocks apiece.
Texas Wesleyan will host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch. |
