FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Ariel Raley has been named Red River Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for the period of March 3-9. Raley shared the award with Northwood Univeristy’s Angelique Meek.
Raley, a senior third baseman from Crowley, TX, went 4-for-10 (.400) at the plate last week with a double, a home run, and two RBI at Oklahoma State Univeristy’s Mizuno Classic. Her homer came in an 11-4 loss to Centenary College (LA) as she went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Texas Wesleyan dropped three games against NCAA Division I competition last week to drop to 4-13 on the season. The Lady Rams are 4-2 in the RRAC.
Meek, a sophomore centerfielder from Mesquite, TX, was 4-for-7 (.571) in a 1-2 week for Northwood. She went 2-for-2 in a 1-0 victory over LSU-Alexandria and she was 1-for-3 with a run scored in a 7-3 loss to Belhaven College (MS). She also contributed two stolen bases and a walk as the Lady Knights moved to 8-11 on the season and remained at 1-1 in conference play.
Texas Wesleyan will return to the field on Wednseday when they travel to Kerville, TX, to take on Schreiner Univeristy. Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
