SAN DIEGO, CA: The 5th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team struggled finished 12th overall at the Point Loma/Smee Builder’s Invitational at Steele Canyon Golf Course. Texas Wesleyan shot a final round of 317 at Steele Canyon Golf Course on Tuesday.
Mitch Hendon, and Kevin Doskocil tied for 32nd at 235 through 54 holes. Carlos Arenas tied for 40th at 237. Armando Villarreal and Drew Koonce finished tied for 44th and 73rd to round out Texas Wesleyan’s card.
As a team, the Rams shot 311, 317, 317 – 945, and finished in 12th position in the field of 16 team. The host school, Point Loma Nazarene shot 305, 294, 300 – 899, to take the championship.
Ross Canavan of the University of Redlands won the individual title after shooting four over par for the tournament (74, 70, 70 – 214).
“This was disappointing, but sometimes in golf things don’t go your way,” said head coach Kevin Millikan. “We will move on and get ready for the next one.”
The Rams will return to action when they host the UST Texas Intercollegiate at Hawks Creek Golf Course. That tournament will be played March 16-17.
