SAN DIEGO, CA: The 5th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team struggled on the first day of their first tournament this semester. The Rams sit in 11th place after shooting 628 through 36holes at the Smee Builder’s Invitational hosted by Point Loma University.
Mitch Hendon led the Rams after shooting 77, 79 – 156 (T34). Kevin Doskocil and Armando Villarreal are tied for 36th at 157. Carlos Arenas is tied for 41st at 158, and Drew Koonce tied for 73rd at 169.
The University of LaVerne leads the field of 16 teams with a card of 300, 290 – 590. Texas Wesleyan shot 311, 317 – 628 to sit in 11th place.
Sam Cyr leads all individuals at 74, 68 – 142. Cyr’s second round of -2, 68, was the only round under par on the day. Only four teams carded rounds under 300.
“It was a tough day,” said head coach Kevin Millikan. “The greens were tough, but obviously we did not play well. We will give it our best tomorrow and see what happens.”
The Rams will play the third and final round at Steele Canyon Golf Course on Tuesday.
