CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (4-10) improved to 4-2 in Red River Athletic Conference play after splitting a doubleheader with rival Northwood University (7-10, 1-1) on Sunday.
Game one was all Northwood as Ashley Westerman (3-3) allowed just three hits while striking out two in a complete-game shutout.
The Knights got an RBI single from Paula Davis in the second inning. Davis later scored on an error to make it 2-0. The Knights added two more including a leadoff home run from Katie Pfannerstill in the fifth and one more in the sixth to account for the 5-0 final.
In game two, the Lady Rams got on the board first when Lindsey Molinar drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and scored on a single from Ariel Raley. In the fifth, the Rams scored three runs on four hits including RBI singles from Elizabeth Brady and Alyssa Cherry.
The Knights got a solo homer from Alex Mesa in the sixth, but it was too little too late.
Ashley Tarrant (2-1) turned in a second straight very strong performance. Tarrant allowed one run on six hits while striking out 10 in seven innings of work.
Molinar went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Lady Rams. Raley added two hits and two RBI in the win.
The Lady Rams will return to the field next weekend when they participate in Oklahoma State University’s Mizuno Classic. |
