OWLS WALK AWAY WITH WIN
February 24, 2007

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (7-5) staged a late comeback, but fell just short in a 7-5 loss to William Woods University (5-3) at LaGrave Field on Sunday.

Zach Smith put the Rams on top in the third inning when he ripped a two-run double into the left-center field gap.  The Owls came back with three runs on three walks, four wild pitches, and a hit batsman in the fourth inning.

Two more hit batters in the fifth led to two more runs for William Woods as the Owls took a 5-2 advantage.  A Texas Wesleyan error in the sixth brought and a double from Justin Koch and a sac fly in the seventh brought the score to 7-2 WWU.

Texas Wesleyan made things interesting in the bottom of the seventh of the scheduled seven inning contest.  After an RBI single from Ryan Jacobi, a sac fly from Smith, and an RBI single from Blake Walker, Antoine Cole drew a two-out walk to load the bases.

Unfortunately Cole, representing the go ahead run, was stranded at first base.

Kyle Proebsting picked up the win after allowing four runs on five hits in six innings pitched.  Will Schulte got the save after recording the game’s final out.

Jesse Wright (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on just one hit in five innings of work.  Wright was hampered by control problems as he issued three walks and hit four batters.

Texas Wesleyan, which out hit William Woods 8-4, got two hits each from its one, two, and three hitters Brandon Frazier, Ryan Jacobi, and Zach Smith.

The Rams return to action on Monday, when they host UT-Dallas at LaGrave Field.  That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
