CHICKASHA, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (2-5) suffered a 70-43 loss at the hands of the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma Lady Drovers (7-2) on Saturday.
The game was very close in the early going. The Rams trailed 18-17 after a Moneke Smallwood jumper with just under three minutes to play in the first half, but USAO scored the final eight points of the period to lead 26-17 at the break.
In the second half, the Drovers shot a blazing 54.8% from the field while holding Texas Wesleyan to just 22%. USAO jumped ahead 34-19 just three minutes into the second half, and never looked back.
The Lady Rams forced 25 turnovers, but USAO won the battle of the boards 54-39 and held Texas Wesleyan to 24% shooting in the game
Kim Gatlin led the Rams with 10 points. Nastassia Brown added six points and 11 rebounds. Nikki Yager led three Lady Drovers in double-figure scoring with 14 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds.
The Lady Rams return to action on Tuesday, December 5, when they travel to Tyler, TX, to take on UT-Tyler. That game is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. |
