RAMS DOMINATE IN 4th STRAIGHT SHUTOUT
October 26, 2006

HOUSTON, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-0 win at Houston Baptist University on Thursday.  The Lady Rams are 7-7 overall but will enter the conference tournament as the hottest team in the league.  Texas Wesleyan finished the regular season by outscoring conference opponents 22-0 in four straight shutouts.  At 5-1 they will be the second seed in next week’s Red River Athletic Conference tournament.

The Lady Rams continued to play dominating soccer, out shooting the Huskies 18-4.  Brittany O’Brien and Holly Rowland combined for four saves in the shutout.

Heather Fowler got the Rams on the board in the 39th minute.  In the 59th minute, Brianna McKernon converted a penalty kick to give the Rams a 2-0 cushion.  Nicole Richardson buried goal number three from 25 yards out just three minutes later.  Fowler then tacked on the final goal at 71:00.

“The girls are really dominating the ball right now,” said head coach Josh Gibbs.  “We’re geared up and anxious to start the conference tournament now.”

College of the Southwest, Texas Wesleyan, Houston Baptist, and Bacone have qualified for the RRAC Women’s Soccer tournament which will be played in Cedar Hill, TX, on the campus of Northwood University next week.  The Lady Rams will open play on Tuesday against either Houston Baptist or Bacone, depending on the outcome of tomorrows game between BC and Texas College.
