FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University’s Ben Smith was selected as both Red River Athletic Conference and Region VI Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for his performance last weekend.
Just one game after netting his first collegiate goal Smith, a freshman midfielder from Grapevine, TX, powered in three goals for his first career hat trick in a 4-1 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University. His play up front also drew attention from Bacone and helped the Rams to a 5-2 win in their final home game this season.
Texas Wesleyan will play its final regular season contest on Thursday when they travel to Houston Baptist University. The Huskies currently sit in third place (4-2) while the Rams trail in fourth (3-2-1) in the conference standings. With a win on Thursday, the Rams could trade places and take the third seed in next week’s conference tournament.
