FORT WORTH, TX: In their final home game of the season, the Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (6-7) took an important win over Bacone College (7-6) on Saturday. The two teams entered the game tied for second in the Red River Athletic Conference at 3-1. With a 3-0 win, the Lady Rams moved into second place alone with one game left in the regular season.
Prior to the game, the Lady Rams honored three outstanding seniors. Melody Overland, Nicole Richardson, and Heather Fowler have each made significant contributions to the program and were instrumental in the program’s first conference championship last season.
Against Bacone, Brianna McKernon got the scoring started on an assist from Allie Heafner in the 28th minute.
The Rams’ lead was just one goal at halftime, but Fowler got the crowd into it when she scored her team-high eighth goal of the season in the 53rd minute of her final game at Martin Field.
McKernon added an unassisted goal with a booming shot from 25 yards in the 66th minute to account for the 3-0 final.
“Our seniors took control on Senior Day,” said head coach Josh Gibbs. “This was great. They each brought something different to the program, and they will each be missed. But, they’ve still got some fight left in them for this last game and the tournament as well.”
The Rams will travel to Houston, TX, on Thursday, October 26, to take on the Houston Baptist Huskies. That game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by a men’s game.
