LADY RAMS KNOCK OFF UMHB
September 13, 2006

BELTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team used an offensive explosion in the second half to get their first win of the young season on Wednesday.  The road warriors, who have just three home games this season, improved to 1-3 with a 4-1 win at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The game was scoreless at halftime, but did not stay that way for long.  Just 58 seconds into the second half, Shannah Bohon found Heather Fowler for the game’s first score.  Eleven minutes later, Nicole Richardson added an unassisted tally.

In the 60th minute, Fowler found the net again, and seven minutes later a UMHB own goal pushed the Rams lead to 4-0.  Brittany Paxton spoiled the shutout with a goal on an assist from Dannie Love in the 85th minute.

The Rams held a 27-12 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.  UMHB goalkeeper Marleigh Clayton had 14 saves in the loss.  Brittany O’Brien earned the win after turning in two saves in a scoreless 76 minutes between the pipes.

Head coach Josh Gibbs felt the team has turned a corner.  “We changed systems and the girls really ran with it.  They believe in what were doing and in themselves now.  This is a good team now, not the collection of good players that we had.”

The Lady Rams return to action on Saturday, September 16, when they travel to Sterling, KS, to take on Sterling College. That game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be followed by a men’s game.
