BELTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (1-1-1) suffered a 6-0 loss at the hands of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (2-3-0) on Wednesday. The game was marred by four cards, including two red cards, that all went against Texas Wesleyan.
UMHB struck just 46 seconds into the match when Mickey Kerr hit Randell Price who headed the ball into the net. Price scored again on an assist from Justin Dollins just before the 10-minute mark, and had an assist on the Crusaders’ third goal in the 20th minute.
In the 26th minute Texas Wesleyan's Jason Reid received a red card and the Rams played the remainder of the game a man down. The Rams were cautioned again ten minutes later, and head coach Josh Gibbs received a red card at halftime.
Those cautions and a 3-0 deficit were too much for the Rams to overcome. Playing a man up, UMHB added three more goals including a late tally by Jaime Garcia in the 82nd minute to record the 6-0 win.
Aside from the score, the game was remarkably even. UMHB held a 19-15 edge in shots. Corner kicks were even at six. Saves favored Texas Wesleyan 7-5, and the Rams were called for 17 fouls compared to 15 for the Crusaders.
Texas Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday, September 16, when they travel to Sterling, KS, to take on Sterling College. That game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. and will be preceded by a women’s game. |
