ABILENE, TX: The six time NAIA national champion Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team completed play in the Charles Coody Invitational Tournament hosted by Abilene Christian University at Diamondback Golf Course on Tuesday.
Abilene Christian rallied from a six-stroke deficit Tuesday afternoon to pull out a three-stroke team victory. The Wildcats shot a final round 280 to finish at 566. St. Edward’s finished second at 569. First day leader Cameron, faded from first to third after following its opening-round 280 with a final round 297 to finish at 577.
Abilene Christian’s Curtis Harris shot the low round of the day at 68. That was enough to rally from a stroke down to win the tournament by two strokes. Harris finished at 137 while a trio of golfers finished at 139.
Texas Wesleyan shaved five strokes off a rough first round however their total of 605 was good only for 14th place. For the second straight day, Kevin Doskocil led the way, this time firing a round of one-under-par 70 for the day. Doskocil finished tied for 18th at 145 overall. Ryan Stephens finished at 151, Will Woodring 153, and Justin Smith 156, while Bronson Kalilikane rounded out the card at 164.
The Rams return to action next week when they travel to Duncan, OK. On September 18-19, they will play in the Territory Classic hosted by Cameron University at The Territory Golf Course.
