FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team will host the 9th Annual O.D. Bounds Golf Classic on September 25, at Diamond Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth. The tournament supports the O.D. Bounds Endowment for Golf at Wesleyan, which provides program support for the men’s intercollegiate golf program, enabling the team to supplement athletic scholarships, increase travel opportunities and provide extra equipment, among other enhancements.
The tournament and the endowment help the University maintain the successful legacy of golf that Coach Bounds established. O.D. Bounds served as head coach for the Rams for 40 years and was the first coach to ever be inducted into the NAIA Golf Hall of Fame as well as the first person inducted into the Texas Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame. Bounds led the Rams to 109 tournament victories including three national championships.
Entry fees for the tournament are as follows: $150 for an Individual Registration (one player and dinner), $200 for an Birdie Sponsor (one player, dinner, and one tee sign, $600 for a Team Registration (four players and dinner), and $1,000 for an Eagle Sponsor (four players, dinner, one tee sign, recognition during dinner).
The entry fee includes golf, cart, range bals, dinner, and tee prizes. Play will be a four-person shamble (select best drive, play own ball from there), counting the low two balls for each hole. Awards will be presented in two flights, the Blue and the Gold.
Overall the Texas Wesleyan men’s golf team has won six national titles. They hold the NAIA record for most titles and most national tournament appearances. In 51 years of NAIA membership, the team has made 45 appearances in the national tournament and finished outside of the top-ten only twice.
