FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team excelled on the course and in the classroom this year. The NAIA has announced the 2006-07 Scholar Teams for all sponsored sports, and the Rams were among those honored. To earn that distinction a team must earn at least a 3.0 team grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) during 2006-07 academic year, as defined by its institution.
The Rams, who featured two Daktronics-NAIA Men’s Golf Scholar Athletes in Mitch Hendon (Jr., Burleson, TX) and Justin Smith (Sr., Runaway Bay, TX), posted a team GPA of 3.03.
Overall 67 student-athletes at Texas Wesleyan, including six from the men’s golf team, posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher. That total accounts for 31% of the student-athlete population at Texas Wesleyan. Five Rams earned Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete recognition.
Although they are not an NAIA sponsored sport, the table tennis team held a GPA of 3.10. The Rams volleyball and baseball teams just missed the Scholar Team cut at 2.98 and 2.94 respectively.
