FORT WORTH, TX: The NAIA has release its All-American team for baseball. Texas Wesleyan University’s Hayden Lackey was among those honored.
Lackey, a junior closer from Duncanville, TX, earned Honorable Mention honors. He was also named Red River Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year as well as 1st-team All-Region VI this season.
He ranked second in the nation with 14 saves while posting 4-2 record and a team-best 1.62 ERA. His 29 appearances mark a school record along with his 14 saves. He is also the school’s career leader in both categories with 72 appearances and 21 saves.
Only one relief pitcher was selected for the 1st and 2nd teams. Lackey had a lower ERA, more appearances, and more saves than either reliever selected ahead of him.
The Rams posted one of the best season’s in school history with a 41-10 record. That marks the program’s highest win total since 1980 and the lowest loss total since 1973. They were ranked as high as 8th nationally and won their first Red River Athletic Conference Championship. They were ranked 13th in the final regular season poll and reached the Region VI final. |
