RAMS SWEEP TIGERS
March 24, 2007

Box Score - Game One

Box Score - Game Two

FORT WORTH, TX:  After taking the first game of the series on Friday, the 10th ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (20-4, 3-0 RRAC) completed a three-game Red River Athletic Conference sweep of Paul Quinn College (5-29, 0-3) in convincing fashion on Saturday.  The Rams took game one 11-1 and prevailed in game two by a score of 14-4.

Three school records were tied on the day.  Brandon Frazier ripped a pair of triples in game one while Chris Palmer pulled the same feat in game two, becoming only the third and fourth players to do so.  Also, Jason Diaz swiped four bases in game two to tie Nathan Murrell’s (2003) single-game mark.

After the Tigers plated an unearned run in the top of the first inning, a two-run homer from Josh Vander Hey put the Rams ahead in the bottom of the frame.  The Rams added four runs in the second when Frazier ripped a bases clearing triple and scored on an error.

Frazier ripped another RBI triple in the fourth and scored on a sac fly from Vander Hey.  An RBI single from Vander Hey and a two-run single from Taylor Miller ended the game in the sixth.

Ryan Riddle (4-0) was in control throughout, as he allowed just one unearned run on three hits while striking out six in six innings pitched.  Frazier went 3-for-4 with four RBI on the day while Vander Hey added four RBI on a pair of hits.

The Rams stayed hot in game two, as they batted around in the first inning.  Texas Wesleyan plated five runs on five hits including a bases clearing triple from Palmer.

Paul Quinn’s David Hoyte smashed a two-run double in the second inning to get the Tigers on the board, but the Rams answered in the bottom of the inning when Diaz drew a leadoff walk stole second and third and scored on a sac fly from Frazier.

Three runs in the third and two more in the fifth put the Rams ahead 11-2.  In the sixth, Palmer ripped a one out triple, and after a pair of walks, Diaz cleared the bases with a triple.  RBI singles from James Taylor and Mike Bentley in the seventh accounted for the 14-4 final score.

Caleb Thomas (6-1) earned the win after allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out seven in five innings of work.

Palmer finished 2-for-4 with three RBI while Diaz went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, three RBI, four stolen bases, and three runs scored.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Austin, TX, for a doubleheader with Huston-Tillotson University.  Game one is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
