FORT WORTH, TX: The hosting Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team is tied for the lead after one round in the UST Texas Intercollegiate at Hawks Creek Golf Course on Monday. Texas Wesleyan and Wayland Baptist both shot two-under par 286 for the day.
The field of 18 teams features five teams ranked in the Golf World/Nike Golf NAIA Coaches’ Poll including Oklahoma City (2nd), Wayland Baptist (6th), Northwood (9th), Texas Wesleyan (12th), and Oklahoma Baptist (22nd).
The Rams and Pioneers have a four shot lead on third place Berry College (290) and seven on second ranked Oklahoma City (293).
UT-Arlington’s Kevin Varrichio leads all 94 individuals with a round of 68. The Rams’ Mitch Hendon is just one shot back at 69 while Kevin Doskocil fired a 70.
Ryan Stephens (T13) shot 72, while Justin Smith and Will Woodring (T35) shot 75 to round out the Rams’ card.
Meanwhile, Texas Wesleyan’s JV squad is tied for 12th at 307. Dan Hahn (T7) led the way with a 71 while Drew Koonce (T35) shot 75, Johnathan Dickerston (T66) 79, Kyle Finkler (79) 82, and Michael Clements (T87) 89.
Second and final round action will take place on Tuesday.
