RAMS TAKE TWO FROM SOUTHWESTERN
March 3, 2007

Box Score - Game One

Box Score - Game Two

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (11-2) rode strong pitching and two big innings to a doubleheader sweep of Southwestern University (6-10) on Saturday.  The Rams took game one 5-4 and romped in game two 10-1.

Southwestern turned a leadoff walk from Landon Durham and a double from Jamie Herrmann into a first-inning run.  All the rest of the scoring came in the fourth.

The Pirates strung five hits together to plate three runs and take a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth.  In the bottom of the inning, the Rams finally got to Andy Morrison who had not allowed a hit to that point.

Josh Vander Hey pushed a single through the right side to lead things off.  The Rams later got an RBI single from Chris Palmer and a two-out two-run single from Ross Elmore.  Jason Diaz then tied the game with an RBI single.  With runners at first and third, the Rams executed a double-steal and Elmore crossed the plate with the winning run on an errant throw.

Landon Newton (1-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief.  Hayden Lackey earned his third save by recording the final three outs.

In game two the Rams sent ten men to the plate in the second inning.  They plated seven runs on four hits and three walks.  Jason Diaz contributed another clutch hit, this time a two-out two-run single.

Matt Noggle doubled and scored for Southwestern in the third, but the Rams scored three more in a fourth inning highlighted by a two-run home run from Billie Hicks.

Weston Wood (1-0) allowed just one run on two hits while striking out six in five innings to get the win.

Diaz, Hicks, and Jeremy Howard each recorded a pair of hits for the Rams.

Texas Wesleyan returns to the field on Tuesday, when they host UT-Dallas.  That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
