RAMS SWEEP #28 OBU
February 17, 2007

Box Score - Game One

Box Score - Game Two

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (6-1) swept a doubleheader from Oklahoma Baptist University (0-8) at LaGrave Field on Saturday.  The Rams used a Josh Vander Hey grand slam to take game one 10-4, and took a thrilling 5-4 win in game two over the Bison who were ranked 28th in the NAIA’s preseason poll.

In game one, the Bison struck first with a pair of runs in the first, but the Rams tied the game with RBI from Vander Hey and Taylor Miller in the bottom of the inning.

In the second, Brandon Frazier’s two-run double highlighted a four-run inning that put Texas Wesleyan on top 6-2.  Oklahoma Baptist got back in the game with a pair in the fifth, but Vander Hey unloaded the bases with a homer to right center in the bottom of the sixth.

Caleb Thomas (2-0) worked five innings for the win.  He allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out seven.  Hayden Lackey tossed the final two innings to pick up his first save of the season.

In game two, the Rams scored two unearned runs in the third, but OBU came back with three in the fourth and one in the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Jason Diaz drew a lead off walk, and then stole second and third.  Josh Vander Hey grounded to short to plate Diaz and was called safe because the throw pulled the first baseman off the bag.  That call sparked an argument and the subsequent ejection of OBU head Coach Bobby Cox along with Dustin Hughes.  The Rams later got another RBI from Antoine Cole to tie the game at four.

In the bottom of the sixth the Rams took the lead on a sac fly from Frazier.  OBU made it very interesting in the seventh when Mason Reilly singled with two outs and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Reilly tried to score on a single to center by Whitt Barkley, but Frazier gunned him down at the plate for the final out of the game.

Jesse Wright (1-0) worked two innings and allowed no runs on two hits while striking out two to pick up the win.  Vander Hey capped a seven RBI day by going 1-for-4 with two RBI.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Oklahoma City, OK, to take on Oklahoma City University.  Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
