FORT WORTH, TX: Texas Wesleyan University head baseball coach Mike Jeffcoat announced today the hiring of Tony Jaramillo, nephew of legendary Texas Rangers Hitting Coach Rudy Jaramillo, as an assistant coach.
Jaramillo brings an impressive resume to the Rams coaching staff with nine seasons in professional baseball as a player and coach. Most recently, Jaramillo served as hitting coach for the West Michigan Whitecaps, Single A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, for three seasons. Jaramillo helped the Whitecaps to a Midwest League Championship in 2004.
He spent three seasons in the Texas Rangers organization as a middle-infielder at the Rookie League and Single A level. In 2000 he signed with the Springfield Capitals of the independent Frontier League and went on to play with four more independent teams in four seasons.
Prior to his professional experience, Jaramillo played one season at RRAC rival Northwood University after playing high school baseball at Sunset High School in Oak Cliff, TX.
Jaramillo was excited about the opportunity to coach at the collegiate level. “I enjoy interacting on the field with young players,” Jaramillo said. “I think I can be a positive influence and help advance their careers.”
Jeffcoat, a former Texas Ranger and 10-year major league veteran, was pleased with the addition of Jaramillo to the Texas Wesleyan Baseball Program. “I’m very excited to have the newest edition to the coaching staff,” Jeffcoat said. “With his knowledge of the game and background in both hitting and defense, he will be a tremendous asset to the University.”
Texas Wesleyan has posted 30 or more wins in three of the last four seasons. In 2006 the Rams finished at 31-23, appeared in the Red River Athletic Conference championship game, and advanced to the NAIA Region VI Tournament. |
