LADY RAMS WIN: GET REMATCH IN REGION VI FINAL |
SILOAM SPRINGS, AR: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s volleyball team (31-3) defeated Lubbock Christian University (23-14) 3-1 in the Region VI semifinals on Friday. With the win they advance to Saturday’s final where they will meet a familiar foe. The Lady Rams will lock horns with Houston Baptist with a title on the line for the second consecutive week.
The Lady Rams took a narrow 33-31 win in game one. Lubbock Christian responded by winning game two 30-24, but the Lady Rams closed the match out with wins of 30-24 and 30-26.
Misty Tarbet led the team with a career-high 21 kills to go with seven blocks. Bela Gaulberto and Rachel Loftin added 15 and 10 kills respectively. Whitney Johansen recorded 53 assists while Susan Taylor had 29 digs.
The Rams also won some Regional accolades. Loftin, Taylor, and Johansen were each named 1st-team All-Region. In addition, Loftin was named Front Row Player of the Year and Player of the Year while Taylor was named Defensive Player of the Year. Head Coach Rick Johansen was also named Region VI Coach of the Year. With the win, the Lady Rams have run their winning streak to 30 consecutive matches. They will attempt to take their third win this season against Houston Baptist in the Region VI final at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Lady Rams lead the all time series with the Huskies 11-7 and have won each of the last four meetings. This season Texas Wesleyan has already taken a pair of 3-1 wins against HBU including last week’s Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Final.
