SHAWNEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan women’s soccer team (14-5) saw an outstanding season come to an end with a 2-1 loss against Oklahoma Baptist (15-4-1) in the Region VI Tournament.
Oklahoma Baptist got on the board first when Hillary Hendrickson scored on an assist from Katya Aruda in the 37th minute. That gave OBU a 1-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Jessica Carrion (Sr. – Fort Worth, TX) knotted the game at one in when she found the net in the 56th minute.
The difference in the game came in the 65th minute when Lauren Aldred took a free kick from over 30 yards out and scored the eventual game-winning goal.
The Rams out shot the Lady Bisons 14-10 and led 3-2 in corner kicks. The Bisons also committed 9 fouls compared to just three for Texas Wesleyan. Holly Rowland made seven saves in the net for the Rams.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak and brought an outstanding season to an end for Texas Wesleyan. The Lady Rams won their first ever Red River Athletic Conference Championship this season. They recorded a school record 14 wins to go with a record low 5 losses. In addition they set school records with seven shutouts and a five-game winning on two occasions.
“We had our best season in program history without a doubt,” said Head Coach Steve Jones. “It’s unfortunate to go out with a tough loss like this, but we have a good looking squad coming back next year. I expect us to be even better next season, and that is exciting.” |
