PHOENIX, AZ: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s golf team completed play in the Grand Canyon Classic at Estrella Mountain Ranch on Tuesday. The Rams entered the day in 6th place and finished in the same position.
CSU-Bakersfield shot 289 in round three and won the tournament with a combined score of 855. CSU-Bakersfield’s D.J. Fernando and CSU-Stanislaus’ Ryan Thornberry tied for the individual title after shooting seven under par (209) for the tournament.
The Rams entered a windy day three in 6th place and were able to hold that position. The Rams shot 296 on the day, 880 for the tournament and finished in a tie with Northeastern State University. Mitch Hendon once again led the Rams with a card of 73. His 217 was good for 14th place overall. Kevin Doskocil just missed the top-twenty after shooting 75 in round three and 220 for the tournament. Doskocil finished 21st overall.
“It was a lot windier and a little tougher to play today,” said Head Coach Kevin Millikan. “We had a good start today, but played the back nine pretty poorly. Hopefully we can rebound in San Antonio next week.”
The Rams did finish ahead of the only other NAIA team in competition. Point Loma Nazarene finished 9th in the 18-team field with a score of 884.
The Rams return to action October 9-11, when they travel to San Antonio, TX, for the Rattler Invitational at the Golf Club of Texas.
