HOUSTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (29-19) avenged three regular season losses against Huston-Tillotson University (24-19) by defeating H-TU 8-4 in the first round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday.
Jason Diaz led off the game with a single to left, and later scored the Rams’ first run on a Travis Clifford groundout.
The Rams continued to lead 1-0 entering the fourth. Texas Wesleyan pushed four more across in the top of the fourth thanks largely to a three-run blast from Chris Palmer.
After H-TU scored on in the bottom of the fourth, the Rams put together a three-run rally in the sixth including a two-run single from Zach Archer. From there, Texas Wesleyan cruised to the 8-4 win.
Caleb Thomas (4-4) earned the win by tossing 7.2 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits.
Brandon Fraizer led the Rams at the plate by going 3-5. Billie Hicks and Antoine Cole each recorded a pair of hits for Texas Wesleyan.
Texas Wesleyan moves on in the winner’s bracket, and will take on 5th seeded Bacone (28-17) who shocked 2nd seeded Northwood 9-2 earlier today. The Rams and Warriors will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
