FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s basketball team, fresh off of its first National Championship has announced the signing of 6’4” junior guard Justin Loewe, a transfer student from Fresno State University.
Loewe sat out the 2005-06 season as a Division I transfer. He had made the move to Fresno State from Texas A&M; however, the Caldwell, TX, native decided to play closer to home.
In his freshman season at Texas A&M he saw action in 23 games. He was also a standout at Caldwell High School. After being named 2nd-team All-State as a junior, Loewe earned 1st-team Class 3A honors in his senior year after averaging 24.6 points per game. A two-time All-Region and District MVP selection, he scored over 2,400 points in his high school career and was slated as one of the top-15 players in the state by Texas Hoops.
Texas Wesleyan’s national championship did figure into his decision to attend the University. “Not everyone can say that they are national champions,” Loewe commented. “That’s a pretty big thing. I wanted to come closer to home, and this program is headed in the right direction. Certainly the coaches know what it takes to get there and hopefully we can get back there again next year.” Loewe went on to say that he felt very comfortable with the coaching staff as well as the returning players when he visited the school.
Head coach Terry Waldrop was excited about the addition of Loewe to the program. “We are very excited about Justin both as a player and as a person. We think he will fit into our program very well. He is a versatile player who can play several positions, and I am looking forward to having him on the court.”
The Rams believe Loewe will be an integral part of the team as they attempt to defend its NAIA Division I National Championship.
