RAMS HIRE NEW SOCCER COACH
April 27, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan university men and women’s soccer programs reached new heights in the fall of 2005.  Both teams won their first Red River Athletic Conference titles, marking the first time in conference history that both champions came from the same institution.  In 2006, the Rams will be under new guidance as the University has hired Josh Gibbs to lead both teams.

For Gibbs the move is a return home.  Gibbs received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Wesleyan in 2003 after playing for three seasons and serving as a student-assistant coach for another under head coach Steve Jones.  During his playing career, he was a 2nd-team All-RRAC selection in 2002.  He transferred to Texas Wesleyan after one season at Huron University where he was an Honorable Mention NAIA All-American Selection.

Gibbs joins the Wesleyan staff after serving as an assistant coach for the Baylor University women’s soccer program.  He is also completing his Masters degree at Baylor.

“I couldn’t have it any better,” Gibbs said.  “I’m coming in to coach two conference champions and my alma mater.  I’m excited to get to know these players and learn what we need to do to continue to win.”  Gibbs went on to comment on the recent success of the Athletic Department as a whole and his hopes of continuing to raise the bar, “Winning has become a popular thing at Texas Wesleyan, and that is the best kind of pressure to have.”

We are really excited about having coach Gibbs join the department,” said Texas Wesleyan Athletic Director Kevin Millikan.  “We are looking forward to continuing the soccer program’s winning tradition with his help.”
