REGION VI CHAMPIONSHIP
April 17, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The 2006 NAIA Region VI Men’s Golf Championship got underway on Monday.  The event is being hosted by Texas Wesleyan University at The Links at WaterChase.  After two rounds on Monday, top ranked Oklahoma Christian leads the tournament with a 36-hole score of 568.

Oklahoma Christian’s Bruno Buccolo and Rhein Gibson sit in a tie atop the leaderboard with Oklahoma City’s Daniel Mitchell.  The threesome turned in matching cards of 141.

Oklahoma City, ranked 6th in the nation, is just two shots behind the Eagles, while #20 Southern Nazarened is in third at 587.  The third ranked Rams are in fourth place with a card of 591.

There was good news for Texas Wesleyan.  Lance Vasquez shot 71 in each of the first two rounds and is in a three-way tie one shot out of the lead.  Ryan Stephens is tied for 23rd (149), Kevin Doskocil and Reino Deetlefs are tied for 28 (150), and Justin Smith is tied for 40th (155) to round out the Rams’ scoring.  Dan Hahn and Mitch Hendon, playing as individuals are tied for 28th as well (150).

The tournament also serves as the Red River Athletic Conference tournament.  Texas Wesleyan holds a three shot lead over Northwood in that contest.

 

Action continues on Tuesday with the third of three rounds.
