RAMS TOP LIONS, 12-2
April 14, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (19-17, 2-5 RRAC) rode a red-hot offense to 14 hits and a much needed 12-2  Red River Athletic Conference win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (18-15-1, 5-5).

An RBI groundout from Brandon Frazier and an RBI single from Jason Diaz in the second a two-run single from Billie Hicks and a sacrifice fly from Ross Elmore in the third gave the Rams a 5-0 lead.

An RBI single from Reggie Veal in the fifth and a solo-home run from Tommy Benningfield brought the score to 5-2 after six innings.

A leadoff triple from Fazier, singles from Diaz and Zach Archer, and a double from Travis Clifford led to two Texas Wesleyan runs in the bottom of the sixth, and, in the seventh, the Rams put up five runs to end the game at 12-2.  In that frame, they capitalized on two SAGU errors, a two-run double from Archer and a game-ending two-run homer from Josh Vander Hey.

Twelve runs was more than enough support for senior southpaw Shea Harrison (4-3) who allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out four in seven innings pitched.

Every member of the Rams batting order recorded at least one hit, while Diaz, Archer, Vander Hey, and Hicks knocked in at least two runs.

The Rams and Lions continue their three-game series with a doubleheader in Waxahachie, TX, tomorrow.  Game one is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
