RAMS RALLY IN THE NINTH:

GAME SUSPENDED DUE TO DARKNESS
March 11, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball fans will get to see bonus baseball on Sunday.  The Rams will finish today’s contest with Iowa Wesleyan prior to the start of tomorrow’s doubleheader.  Texas Wesleyan staged a ninth inning rally to send Saturday’s contest into extra innings before the game was suspended due to darkness.

Rams starter Shea Harrison scattered three singles across five innings but exited a scoreless game in the sixth.

Meanwhile, the Tigers Tommy Peterson carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.  In that inning, Jason Diaz led off with a double to left and advanced to third on a wild pitch.  After Josh Vander Hey drew a walk, Travis Clifford brought Diaz in with a sacrifice fly giving the Rams a 1-0 lead.  A single from Zach Archer and a walk to Jeff Piaskowski then loaded the bases with just one out.  Peterson worked out of the jam with a strikeout and a fly out to hold the Rams to just one run.

In the seventh, the Tigers loaded the bases with one out.  Josh Naylor hit into a double play to score one run, and Julian Montanez gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead with an RBI double to left.  Naylor made it 3-1 with an RBI double in the top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth, Cory Venable drew a one-out walk and scored when Brandon Frazier, smashed a triple into the left-center gap.  Frazier scored the tying run on a ground out by Billie Hicks.

The Tigers got a runner to third with just one out in the tenth, but Weston Wood induced a ground ball right at second baseman Cory Venable and then got out of the jam with a strikeout.

After the Rams failed to score in their half of the tenth, the game was suspended and will be picked up at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, prior to the start of a scheduled doubleheader.
