RAMS WIN A WILD ONE
March 7, 2006

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (7-4) held on for a wild 12-11 win over McMurry University (7-5) at Sycamore Park on Tuesday.

The Indians scored first when Albert Carrizales led off with a double and scored on a single from Brent Voorhees.  McMurry broke things open in the fourth when they plated six runs on five hits including a two-run double from Greg Erickson and a bases-clearing double off the bat of Hank Casey.

Meanwhile, Indians starter Richard Burriss carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning.  That changed in a hurry as the Rams answered with six runs in the fourth on four hits including a bases-clearing triple from Jeff Piaskowski.

McMurry took a 9-6 lead in the sixth on a two-run homer by Derek David.  However, the Rams answered once again in the bottom of the inning.  Piaskowski started the rally with a one-out double.  He scored on a single from Billie Hicks.  Hicks later scored on a single from Cory Venable, and the Rams tied the game at nine when Jason Diaz executed a squeeze play to plate Venable from third base.

In the seventh, Texas Wesleyan took its first lead of the game with three runs on three hits including an RBI-single from Jeremy Howard.

In the ninth, the Indians scored two runs on two hits and an error and had the tying run on base before Hayden Lackey shut the door by recording the final three outs.

Michael Talley (1-0) recorded the win after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in two innings of work.  Hayden Lackey recorded his first save of the season.

Hicks went 3-4 with two runs scored and three RBI for the Rams.  Piaskowski went 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, and Zach Archer added three hits for Texas Wesleyan.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday, March 11, when they host Iowa Wesleyan at Sycamore Park.  Game one of that doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
